The signing ceremony

What your client sees, step by step.

This is the lesson that most changes how you prepare documents, because it is not about your screen: it is about your client's. All of it happens in their browser, with no account and nothing to install.

Before they see the document

First comes consent to sign electronically, and it is not decorative paperwork: it carries the five points federal law requires — the right to a paper copy, the right to withdraw consent, scope, what hardware and software are needed, and how to request a copy. The exact version of the text they accepted is recorded with its timestamp.

Adopting the signature

  • They pick how it will look: type it, draw it with a finger or mouse, or upload an image.
  • They also pick their initials, which get stamped in the initials boxes.
  • They can save their signature for upcoming documents for a year, and delete it whenever they want.

Completing and signing

A bar tells them how many fields are left, and «Go to next» walks them field to field with no hunting. Once everything is filled, «Sign document» appears. They can also decline: «I don't want to sign» asks for a reason, notifies you, and closes the document for everyone.

If the order is sequential and it is not their turn yet, they see a screen explaining it and will get an email when their turn arrives. Nothing for them to do, and nothing to ask you.

Your side meanwhile

  • Each signer's status, one by one: «Notified», «Delivered», «Opened», «Signed» or «Declined».
  • «Remind» resends the notice, with a limit: you cannot send two reminders less than 24 hours apart.
  • «Void» closes the document for every party, asks for a reason, and cannot be undone.
Tip: Before sending your first document to a real client, send it to your own personal email and sign the whole thing. It takes five minutes, and you will change two or three labels the moment you see it through the eyes of the person receiving it.
