The access log
Who saw it, when, and who gave it to them.
The «Access log» answers the question that always shows up late: who saw this, when, and who granted them access.
What gets recorded
- The upload, with who did it.
- Every view and every download, with the person and the time.
- Every share and every revoked permission.
- The deletion, if there was one.
And the copy to your cloud is recorded too, like any other way the document leaves. The backup is not a back door around the log.
What it is actually for
Not for policing your team. It is for three concrete things: proving a disclosure was delivered, knowing whether the lender opened the proof of funds before you ask for it again, and ending an argument about who had access to what in ten seconds.
And it outlives the document
When a document is deleted, its log is kept. That is deliberate: if deleting the file also deleted its history, anyone could make the trail of what they shared disappear. The deletion dialog says so before you confirm.
Tip: Before resending a document because "they surely did not see it", open the log. Half the time the download is right there — and then what is missing is not the file, it is a reply. Those are two very different conversations.
